Landscape Design Process
The Design phase is an exciting time in any landscape project and we always love to hear about your ideas, style preferences and end goals.
We take the time to listen, work through practical issues with you and after advice on how to best achieve your vision. Each landscape design is a custom piece, founded on solid design principles, product knowledge and the unique characteristics and demands of your property.
A well designed landscape can make a very real difference in the quality of your home, your enjoyment of the outdoors, and your leisure time with family and friends.

Your Backyard Haven offers in person on-site design consultations with an experienced landscape designer.
The duration of a paid consultation is typically between 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Before arriving for the on-site design consultation we ask that you have the following ready for our meeting.
- A copy of your survey, design wish list, photos from websites or magazines.
- Approximate budget and what landscape features you would like to see such as a pool, a cabana, fire feature, deck, water feature or landscape lighting.
- Ideas of what materials such as natural stone, interlocking stone, type of structures, type of planting (low maintenance for example) that you would like to see in your outdoor living space.
We begin with an in-depth meeting at your home where we discuss your goals, needs, expectations, preferred garden style (contemporary or traditional for example), site issues such as drainage, and budget.
We will listen to your needs, provide expert advice and suggest materials that will work within your budget, lifestyle and timeline.
Based on this information we will provide you with a quote and timeline to complete a master landscape plan.
SITE SURVEY AND ANALYSIS
Once the design fee has been agreed upon our Landscape Design expert will visit your home to get additional details such as measurements consist of residence locating all the windows and doors, property lines and existing elements that are to remain (such as trees, pools, structures, etc.). Elevation measurements are taken where necessary and are especially important for decks, multiple sitting areas and pools.
Digital photos of the area to be designed are taken which will help with the conceptualize the landscape design.
CONCEPT PLAN AND 3D DESIGN
After the site survey and analysis made on our visit to your property, the creative process begins with the information obtained from the initial Design Consultation.
This plan will show the lines of the property of your residence along with all the elements of the landscape that exist there.
The landscape designer will present the Concept Plan to you for review and take note of any changes, review materials, and finalise the details to complete the Master Plan.
Here it is very important to agree on the planting plants and products that you want in your project.
At this point, the structures of the gardens can be presented in three-dimensional format for an additional fee or depending on the design package that you have chosen.
When our Landscaping designer has obtained a conceptual plan, the changes can be finalized to prepare the master plan.
At this point you should have selected the products, materials and colors that will be part of your future project as well as the planting plan must have been established.
Construction details are prepared for garden structures, if necessary.
Finally, the master plan is detailed for final presentation to our customer.
A quotation is presented at final meeting along with the Master Plan . A detailed quote with specifications, price of each component of the Master Plan including, hardscaping, custom woodworking, planting, decking, water features, planting etc.
Project Management and Construction
We know that any type of renovation can be stressful, so we do everything during the installation process to make it as smooth and stress free as possible. After your design is approved your designated Project Manager will monitor our expert team of certified installers, horticulturalists, carpenters, and landscape specialists, as they construct your outdoor living space.
They deal with the crews, site issues, sub-trades (if required) so you don t have too. This alleviates a lot of pressure on you during the project and insures the design and installation is constantly monitored and built according to landscape plan. The result is comfortable outdoor living spaces that are perfect for entertaining, family functions, of simply relaxing according to the approved plan, on time and on budget. In the final quote you will receive along with the Master Plan, detailed information about the specifications, price of each component of the master plan including stone work, planting, structures, water features, electricity, irrigation, etc.
